The Mobile Marketing Value Exchange

Scott Forshay posts on briansolis.com about the value of mobile marketing.

Forshay says, “In the early stages of mobile marketing, the value exchange was almost exclusively defined through promotional-based marketing. Consumers were asked to share their mobile numbers in exchange for coupons. While seemingly primitive by today’s standards, text back couponing remains an effective behavior stimulus for many brands and retailers, but for luxury brands discounting flies in the face of the intrinsic value of the brand. The challenge for innovative prestige brands is defining how best to create a true value exchange with their most loyal advocates while remaining true to themselves and not cheapening the brand in the process of attempting to deepen relationships.”

The Social Media Examiner throws down the ABCs of blogging. That means 26 tips on making your blog even better. In honor of Brand Adoption – We’ll highlight the B and A from their list.

Make Sure to Check Out All 26 Tips Here

B: Blogging Platform

By knowing the ins and outs of your blogging platform, you’ll ensure that your posts look as good as they can. Take the time to master the visual editor (or raw HTML, if you prefer) so that you know how to format a post, insert an image and embed a video or podcast.

Whether you’re working in platforms such as WordPress, Tumblr or Posterous, it’s good to stay up to date on the features and new versions.

If you’re not comfortable with the more technical aspects of blogging, try to find someone who can be a resource for you to answer questions as they arise.

A: Anatomically Correct

A blog post contains several areas that require our attention and care. Pamela Seiple refers to six parts of the anatomy of a lead-generating blog post:

  1. Eye-catching title
  2. In-text links to landing pages
  3. Sidebar/banner calls to action
  4. Social sharing buttons
  5. Call to action at the bottom
  6. Relevancy—making sure the post is relevant from top to bottom

Citizens speak out on @Sweden Twitter account

If it works for Sweden, shouldn’t it work for business?  It will be interesting to see if any companies follow suit, and dare to turn off twitter powers to one of their devout fans.  The PR would be fantastic…but would it outweigh all the worry?  I can only image ever VP who has never seen a company tweet before sitting at the computer just waiting for the text tweet.  It’s painful just thinking about it.

If you are not familiar with the story -

Stockholm: Do you think Sweden is all about blondes, meatballs and snow? Think again.

Since December, the Nordic country has been promoting itself on Twitter by handing over the official @Sweden account to an average citizen every week.

Among those who have hosted the account are a Christian minister, an organic sheep farmer and a blogger from an immigrant neighbourhood – each painting their own, different image of Swedish society.

This week the account is controlled by Hanna Fange, who describes herself as “just your average lesbian truck driver.”

Maria Ziv, marketing director at public-private PR agency Visit Sweden, said the idea was to give the national account a more genuine voice and present a different picture of Sweden.

“Each tweeter should be a small piece in the puzzle that is Sweden,” she said Thursday.

While institutions in many other countries still haven’t taken control of their country names on Twitter, Visit Sweden and the public Swedish Institute registered the (at)Sweden account in 2009. Ziv said the latest campaign is a natural step in the organization’s efforts to use social media in their marketing.

The move has been well-received online and the account has increased its number of followers from around 8,000 in December to more than 23,000…”

6 Apps That Block Online Distractions So You Can Get Work Done

We try to post these news stories at the start of the work day…but there are just so many distractions online.  Mashable has put together 6 Apps that help block those distractions!

Training Wheels

For those not ready to go whole hog on their Internet deprivation, Stutzman also sells a $15 program called Anti-Social that blocks “distracting” social media sites like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, as well as any other sites you specify. Stutzman got the idea for Anti-Social when he fell into the “Wikipedia Trap” one day in which he got sidetracked by interesting, but irrelevant information on that site as he was trying to do research.

A free alternative to Anti-Social is LeechBlock, a Firefox add-on that is designed to “block those time-wasting sites that can suck the life out of your working day,” according to its website.”
